ABOUTNOTHING
BEN LARABIE
Ben joined the music scene at a relatively late stage in his life. Picking up the drum sticks at age 16 however he quickly progressed under the training of Five Man Electrical Band drummer, Steve Hollingworth. By 18, Ben joined a local Ottawa band named ‘Delving Deeper’ and recorded an album before an extended hiatus. Ben taught himself chords on a guitar his uncle had given him. Throughout college, Ben focused more on his music than on his studies and had written dozens of songs by the time he graduated. His former band briefly reunited under the name ‘Wicked Fall’ but broke up for good in 2007.
Soon after, Ben answered an online ad to audition as the drummer for a band peculiarly named Nothing. Ben and the band’s leader, Luke, quickly became close friends after their instant musical chemistry. Over the next year, Ben played drums for Nothing at numerous shows in Ottawa, Brockville and Montreal. But his prodigal talents were also commissioned to record and mix Nothing’s debut album in his basement studio as well as lend his hand to awesome Radiohead-like guitar riffs. His guitar contributions were such that the rest of the band enthusiastically welcomed this multi-talented musician’s wish to move from drums to lead guitar where he continues to seek for his trademark sound that undeniably helps shape Nothing’s far-reaching sound.
